Facebook has just added a new feature: the subscribe button to the Facebook profile.  With this button, you can subscribe to the posts of people you are friends with and now also with people you are not friends with.  If you want to get public subscribers (meaning people you are not friends with will get your Facebook posts), all you need to do is activate the service in your Facebook profile.  For more details on how the button looks and where you can get it, just watch the short video (here is the link for subscribers):

When you activate the subscribe button, you have to be aware that everybody can now subscribe to your posts.  A very good idea is to put your friends into lists and then you can still post private messages to your friend lists and the public subscribers will not see them.  The public subscribers only see the posts that are public and not directed to a specific list.  As mentioned in other blog posts, this looks very similar to Google Circles.  If you are already in Google+, you are familiar with the layout.  If not, it is very easy: you need to categorize your friends in different lists, that you create.  You can create lists for close friends, family, friends that like social media, social media leaders, clients, potential clients, etc..  The possibilities are endless and only curbed by your imagination.  Never name lists negatively though – you never know what Facebook changes next and you wouldn’t want that to become public.  Over all, you should not post negative things in social networks, but that is another topic.

I for myself think that this is a great possibility to get your posts even more viral than before.  Most of my posts are not very personal, but have business and personal things mixed together.  So, if you share your biggest secrets on Facebook, you might not want to activate the service.  If you don’t activate it, you will still have access to the feature in terms that you can change which posts to see from your friends and you can subscribe to other people’s posts.  Your profile will just not have a subscribe button on top and people wouldn’t be able to subscribe to your posts.

Happy posting!
